Happy Little Hands

Last night, on a whim, I deleted my Facebook account and started this blog. I’m not sure what finally drove me to take the leap. I think I finally owned up to the fact that I spend way too much time mindlessly scrolling on social media and not enough time devoting myself to meaningful online pursuits such as blogging.

I decided to start this blog focused on autism for a lot of reasons. Mainly because I really want to share our family’s experience with this diagnosis and what it has meant for us so far. I’m also quite worried I’m going to forget parts of our story if I don’t keep a record of where we’ve been along the way.

I chose the name Happy Little Hands for this blog because it was one of the first signs of autism I noticed in my child. From the time my son was quite small, he would raise his hands and flap them intensely.  Professionals refer to this behavior as stimming; however, in our house we call it “happy hands” because my son usually flaps his hands when he is feeling overwhelming excitement or joy.

I have so much more I want to share, but I think I’m going to close for now. Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog. I hope that our journey in some way helps you with yours. Best wishes!
